Who we are

The CMU Poker Club exists for one straightforward reason: poker is more fun with other people. We provide a place for students to play, to learn about the game, and to spend an evening doing something more interesting than homework.

We are open to any skill level. That isn't a polite formality — a real share of our members arrived having never played a hand. If you know what a flush is, you know enough to sit down. If you don't, someone at the table will tell you.

How much this asks of you

Almost nothing. We're a low commitment club by design. There's no attendance requirement, nothing you have to sign up to run, and no expectation that you turn up every week. Participation in our GBMs is completely optional — come to the ones you want, skip the ones you don't, and nobody will chase you about it.

What a GBM looks like

General body meetings are our regular get-together. Mostly that means playing poker in a casual setting with food around. Sometimes we run an educational session where someone walks through a piece of strategy — how to think about pot odds, when to fold a decent hand, that sort of thing. You don't need to have been to the last one to follow along at the next one.
